Movie Review: Tomboy

“A 10-year-old girl, settling into her new neighborhood outside Paris, is mistaken for a boy and has to live up to this new identity since it’s too late for the mistake to be clarified.”

Today I watched this movie, it’s in french with english subtitles.  It’s slow going but it held my attention mostly because of the realistic acting from these child actors.  It was pretty good except it left me with a sadness at the end.  I thought I saw a real natural progression of what a young person might be going through if they were able to realize at such a young age they would prefer to be a boy rather than a girl.

Daily Creativity: Tek and Rory as Calvin and Hobbes

Rory and Tek as Calvin and Hobbes
I’m finding I really like watercolors, yes I knew I liked them, but it’s been so long since I’ve used them. I’m having a lot of fun with this, found some of my older, better brushes too, that helps tremendously. While I think I got the right face for the Tek-Hobbes I think it’s too much Hobbes and not enough Tek. It’s hard taking a human, without any signature features other than a buzz cut and turning him into a tiger. Making the Calvin-Rory was a lot easier, the spineidies are a big Rory trait, the brown eyes and fangs and well he’s green.

I think I might use this style of painting (not the Calvin and Hobbes, but the painting style) when I illustrate the Rory goes to the Dentist book idea I’ve been thinking about.

Nutty Bites: Nutty Debate – Geek Gifts

Rory as Father ChristmasI had hoped to get this edited and uploaded before Christmas, but that didn’t happen.  As it is, I didn’t even have room to play the bloopers, which were pretty funny because halfway through recording I thought my house was burning down… oh well, there is still tons of funny in the podcast.

Nutty Debate, Geek Gifts with Tek from my living room, Hugh O’Donnell from “The Way of the Buffalo” and Amber from “Lavender Lane”
