Daily Creativity: Sleeping TekType

A sleeping TekType in his natural habitat Tonight I lay next to my husband as he slept and sketched him, then I painted it.  I just loved how he looked laying there.  The green of his clothes mixing with the green sheets, pillow cases and duvet gave the tableau a very soft feel, it’s what pulled me to pick up a pencil.  I chose watercolor to make the painting as soft as I could.

This comes on a fitting day, as I post this it is July 4th, 2013.  My husband and I met for the first time face to face 11 years ago today.  We had known each other for about five years before then but we grew closer in the year before meeting.  Not to sound sappy, but it was the best fourth of july fireworks ever, and I had to go to Canada for them.

Daily Creativity: Sleeveless and Fearless

sleeveless-and-fearlessIf you follow me on social media you know that I have been reacting to an article I read lately, “Things no one will tell fat girls… so I WILL!” and one of the take aways (everything in the article is worth while) is how many people I know personally who are ashamed of their arm flab and don’t feel brave enough to go sleeveless.  I knew my own issues with my arms, I have always felt my arms were way bigger than they should be, even at my tiniest I was ashamed of my arms.  It’s stupid and silly, arms have flab, without it we can’t put our arms up over our head.  Some have more flab that others, but it’s skin, it’s fat, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of.  In the last year I have been trying to force myself not to cover up my arms unless I’m cold.  I need to get over my own insecurities.  After talking to some people and seeing how that scares them, I decided I had to go sleeveless (and started using the hashtag #sleevelessandfearless).  For the past six days Î have been sleeveless every day (I’m starting to run out of tanks) and my inbox was filled with thank yous and messages from people calling me brave.  It’s a sad thing that so many of us living the privileged lives we lead are scared of sleeveless shirts or dresses.

So I drew this in honor of the momentum I’ve been feeling.  It works well that the weather has gotten nicer, but all the more reasons to go Sleeveless and Fearless!

Daily Creativity 2013 Lent Round Up

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This year for Lent I started l my daily creativity project late and I made myself a deal, I didn’t have to do one every day.  Mostly because it was a rough lent for me, very busy, and lots of stress.  I didn’t need this project to become an added stress and then become something to push me further from my relationship with God and further from art itself.  If you want to know more about my personal struggles we can chat over a soda/coffee/tea sometime, but for the blog, it’s not important.  I was able to manage 26/40 images.  I have a pair of shoes that will be posted once they are fully weather proofed, that was part of my creativity, and some baking projects too.  I think I did well, and I’m happy with the results.  four of my creations have been ordered as prints, so that’s 3 more than last year, that’s another win.  I would like to look into making stickers from some of the works, like the Pi symbol and possibly an updated version of the Rocktopus, I like the RedBubble stickers and think I will make a few of these things available there.  I wish they could go larger than 3″x4″ but they will die cut it too, so that’s cool.

So what was your favorite creation this year?

Daily Creativity: Skull

Skull_smThis is yesterday’s daily creativity, I was out most of the day and just not able to get in up until today.  I started drawing this while at the radio station and then finished it when I got home.  Skulls are fun, and I have a few around my house.  I’ve often worn skulls on my clothing and I remember in the past having a lot of negative reactions to it, but now I get positive reaction.  Little kids wear skulls now and it’s cute.  It’s interesting how societies perception of things like this keeps changing. I like the decoration on the top, and the shading and cross hatching on the cavities.  Ink on paper.

Daily Creativity: Rory has a crush

RoryHasACrushToday I drew this mental image I have from time to time of Rory acting out his crush.  Very few people know of the other animals in Rory’s story, but this is one of them.  Ishime, a panther cub.  Rory wants to give her a flower.

I drew this with fine tipped sharipes on paper.  I like the ability I have to do some fun ink things with sharpies but find myself wishing for the control of a quill.  Now if only I had a good way to utilize various ink colors with a quill?
