Nutty Bites 145: No Vicar, I'll not be Going to Totenham Today!

Join us for our first episode of a new introcast, No Vicar, I’ll not be going to Totenham Today! Vicarcast should be a lot of fun, Nutty and Tek join the cast of the Red Dwarf Introcast, Shane, Heath, and Angela for this new show. It is worth listening to, even if you haven’t seen the episode. Make sure you listen to the end.

Listen to us waffle on about how this show is the inspiration for many others we have seen. The originator of so many jokes and references. Plus the fodder stolen by the likes of both Joss Whedon and KJ Rowling for their signature series. Not to mention all the actors who became big names after this show, including a throw away extra. This is the most serious fan cast ever. If you were a listener of the Red Dwarf introcast we know you have been waiting for a deep dive into this quintessential cornerstone in British culture.

Nutty Bites 115: Intro to Ghibli – Spirited Away

Nutty Bites 115: Intro to Ghibli – Spirited AwayNutty Bites 115: Intro to Ghibli - Spirited Away

Spirited Away was in theatres this month, Nuchtchas and Tek took the advantage of being able to see this film for the first time on the big screen. Jason’s favorite Ghibli movie did not disappoint. Also, it has an actual ending!!!! Plus we are talking about cosplay opportunities. Next up is Howl’s Moving Castle.

Nutty Bites 111: Intro to Ghibli – Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Nutty Bites 111: Intro to Ghibli – Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Nutty Bites 111: Intro to Ghibli – Nausicaä of the Valley of the WindNausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is coming a bit out of order thanks to it being shown locally at the theatre. We couldn’t pass up the chance to see it on the big screen with an audience. Originally we had planned to watch all of the Miyazaki Ghibli movies first, move on to Takahata, then watch non Takahata/Miyazaki Ghibli movies, and then go back to Miyazaki’s non Ghibli movies. The chance to see the movies in theatre made us rework the viewing order. We also realized that we didn’t want to have a bunch of sad movies together, so we reworked the order. Mostly in release order, except when we needed to put an uplifting film between two sad ones. There is a link below.

Ghibli Cast Rating SystemWe also clarified our rating system since some listeners were confused by our ratings. This should make our ratings a bit more clear and less insulting to some. (Though I am still insulted at Jason’s Whisper of the Heart rating).

Nutty Bites 108: Intro to Ghibli – Princess Mononoke

Nutty Bites 108: Intro to Ghibli – Princess MononokePrincess Mononoke is a great art piece but our panelists debate about whether or not it is a good movie. This was recorded at Balticon 51, the panelists are Nuchtchas, Tek, Jen, Jason, Laura Nicole, and Grig Larson. Sorry if we crushed the heart of the fans, but this panel was divided between loving this movie and not loving it.

Intro to Ghibli, a new regular segment of Nutty Bites and the Talk Nerdy 2 Me Podcasts. Jen & Jason guide newbies Nuchtchas & Tek through the movies of Studio Ghibli. We are starting with the Hayao Miyazaki films in order(ish), just bumping My Neighbor Totoro to the first.  Once we finish those we will hit up the Isao Takahata films, then the Ghibli films without either director, then two non Ghibli Miyazaki films, and we also have some bonus shorts to sprinkle throughout.

Daily Creativity: Deadwood Cast

Deadwood Cast - Daily CreativityDaily Creativity: Deadwood Cast

I love Deadwood, the HBO series, and yet I avoided watching it for years. I know so many people who love it but it just didn’t seem like my kind of show. I’m not really into westerns, and that’s what it looked like. This show is so not a western. I started watching it mainly because my friends started an introcast about it called Hooplecast (go listen to that, it’s a lot of fun, and loooooong episodes). I was still hesitant to watch it, since it wasn’t on netflix, but another friend had said he’s be a newbie listening along and sending in feedback. Then that friend passed away, and I felt a nice way to honor him was to take up that pledge myself.  I’m so happy I did. This show is fun. Why didn’t anyone tell me it was swearing in iambic pentameter? My favorite characters aren’t what most people’s favorite characters are. Jane is my number one favorite, followed by Elsworth and the Doc.

I figured if I was going to draw some of the cast I had to have Al and Seth, it’s a given. I couldn’t draw the main cast that’s on the DVDs though, no Jane!  Jane had to be in there, she’s just too great. I have grown to love Al’s character, but I don’t love Al. I like how awful he is and how complex he is. I feel like I should have drawn some dirt on Jane’s face, but was afraid it might make it hard to see her. After drawing Doc I got the feeling that his hair is really fluffy. I get weird thoughts when I draw.
