This Love Your Body painting was inspired by a self portrait photograph a friend of mine too. I kept thinking about the image and realized I wanted to paint it. I asked her permission and when she said yes I knew right away this was going to be a watercolor. In the original photo it was as if she was filled with light, so selecting oranges, reds, and yellows for my color pallet was a given. I used blue to contrast the colors and make the figure even brighter. I don’t think I captured the feeling of light as I would have liked. Yet I hope I caught the feeling of the pose, the bold look to the viewer and expressive posture. I find this piece inspiring, bold and aware. I want to be that woman in the painting. Love Your Body will always be part of Daily Creativity. If you don’t like seeing celebration of the human form then (I feel bad for you) you will be disappointed here. I love this piece, it reminds me of one I did last year, but I’m sure the models are different. The photo I used didn’t have the person’s head in it, so I think I channeled last year’s model to fill in those features. I love how she is holding herself, expressing that love we should all have for our bodies.

I wasn’t able to scan this yesterday (I’m back dating this post) because I was in North Bay.

Love Your Body is a series of Body Positive art that I do. This piece is very much on the fat acceptance side of the body positive movement. I like the simplicity of the lines I make with my ink brush. It really is a style I’m enjoying. I plan to do more of these. I’m saving the photo I worked from to use again for a watercolor painting too. You can find the resource photo here on tumblr. You can see that I modified the pose a little for composition sake. Daily Creativity: 4 pack with a fat tummy – Love Your Body

Daily Creativity: 4 pack with a fat tummy – Love Your Body

Daily Creativity: 4 pack with a fat tummy - Love Your BodyI got a 4 pack with a fat tummy, it’s something I have noticed recently as my muscles are getting defined from aikido. I never quite realized you could have a 4 pack with fat on top, I knew the muscles were there, but never expected to see them. This drawing is how I see it when I look down or look in the mirror. The shading makes my middle look smaller than it is, but I tried to show where the rolls lay and what I’m seeing. As I journey through self love I find myself loving and being marveled by various aspects of my body. Things like my very deep belly button used to embarrass me, and now I draw it as dark and deep as I can because it’s fascinating.
