Daily Creativity: Trash Panda

Daily Creativity: Trash PandaTrash Panda is a tumblr name for a raccoon, but I decided to take the term literally tonight. This is a fountain pen painting. I drew it with a fountain pen and then used water mixed with the ink to create a watercolor, since the ink is water soluble. I really enjoy how these come out, and it gives me a reason to use ink that isn’t waterproof. If you don’t know by now, I have let myself fall headfirst into fountain pens again. I could talk your ear off about them. I write with them, draw with them, I tinker and change their nibs or make frankenpens, and play with ink. So expect some more pieces like this in the future.

Daily Creativity: Kotegaeshi Hands

Daily Creativity: Kotegaeshi HandsToday I feel like I did the best Kotegaeshi throw I have ever done in aikido. So I was inspired for tonights painting. This throw is a little more complicated because uke (my partner) needs to do a jumping front breakfall (they have to roll without the use of their arms, and I have to give uke enough energy so they can do this. Not only did I do my jumps pretty nice when uke, but my throw really sent the energy from the hands to the elbow to the shoulder to the hips and launched my partner.

As for the art side, drawing and painting hands can be complicated, especially when they are in a complicated pose. I’m pretty pleased with how this came out. I wanted to use one color to not distract too much from the hands study.

This Floating woman was inspired by a script my friend Melissa wrote as part of a script writing challenge. She asked me for some art to put with it for her post, I sent her some and was inspired by her writing to draw this. I love the round circle of inspiration here. I will come back and link to her scene when she posts it publicly, but in the meantime, just know, it’s great. Read the script here, it’s amazing!

Daily Creativity: Typewriter Swirls

Daily Creativity: Typewriter SwirlsI drew this typewriter with my recently hacked frankenpen fountain pen. It’s a Zebra comic G nib in a fountain pen. This isn’t something you would want to do to a nice fountain pen, but considering I paid $6 for the pen, and it wasn’t my favorite, it was ok trashing the pen for this. Doing this will ruin your fountain pen, and if you don’t take care the nib could rust in the feed and trash the feed. I knew the risks.

I missed drawing with a quill, and this solved that. I wanted to experiment with some line art. I just did the outline of the typewriter so that it would blend well with the swirling lines surrounding it.

Daily Creativity: Luna the Wonder Dog

Daily Creativity: Luna the Wonder DogLuna is a wonder dog. It’s funny how a dog you have never physically me, but know through the love se gives your friend, the happiness she gives, and various video chats, can touch your heart. My heart has been holding tight for a few months as my friends go through a hard time. This morning I cried for them, and still hold out some hope. I wanted to draw her today because even now, when she is in pain, she’s just amazing and loving. I think that animals are a gift that humans get to exist with. If we are lucky we form relationships with them. It’s how we care for them that we can show them our love, and their affection is golden.
