Nutty Bites 111: Intro to Ghibli – Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Nutty Bites 111: Intro to Ghibli – Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Nutty Bites 111: Intro to Ghibli – Nausicaä of the Valley of the WindNausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is coming a bit out of order thanks to it being shown locally at the theatre. We couldn’t pass up the chance to see it on the big screen with an audience. Originally we had planned to watch all of the Miyazaki Ghibli movies first, move on to Takahata, then watch non Takahata/Miyazaki Ghibli movies, and then go back to Miyazaki’s non Ghibli movies. The chance to see the movies in theatre made us rework the viewing order. We also realized that we didn’t want to have a bunch of sad movies together, so we reworked the order. Mostly in release order, except when we needed to put an uplifting film between two sad ones. There is a link below.

Ghibli Cast Rating SystemWe also clarified our rating system since some listeners were confused by our ratings. This should make our ratings a bit more clear and less insulting to some. (Though I am still insulted at Jason’s Whisper of the Heart rating).

Intro to Ghibli, a new regular segment of Nutty Bites and the Talk Nerdy 2 Me Podcast. Jen & Jason guide newbies Nuchtchas & Tek through the movies of Studio Ghibli.

Nutty Bites 110: Frail Masculinity with Grig Larson & Jason Banks

Nutty Bites 110: Frail Masculinity

Nutty Bites 110: Frail Masculinity Frail Masculinity is a topic that Jason wanted to talk about ever since someone came into his store and said he couldn’t play a game as a female character. Nuchtchas brought Grig Larson & Tek on to create a panel of men who are annoyed with the influence of this sort of toxic behavior. Together we discussed how this idea of malehood is false and damaging and how there is no right way or wrong way to be a man.

Nutty Bites 109: Military Representation – Tek & Jason takeover

Military Representation – Tek & Jason takeover Nutty Bites

Nutty Bites 109: Military Representation - Tek & Jason takeoverMilitary Representation is a topic that Tek and Jason wanted to talk about. More about misrepresentation but of course we also gushed about the times it was done right too. So Tek & Jason took over and Nuchtchas joined in to talk about movies and film that do it well and do it poorly.

Nutty Bites 108: Intro to Ghibli – Princess Mononoke

Nutty Bites 108: Intro to Ghibli – Princess Mononoke

Nutty Bites 108: Intro to Ghibli – Princess MononokePrincess Mononoke is a great art piece but our panelists debate about whether or not it is a good movie. This was recorded at Balticon 51, the panelists are Nuchtchas, Tek, Jen, Jason, Laura Nicole, and Grig Larson. Sorry if we crushed the heart of the fans, but this panel was divided between loving this movie and not loving it.

Intro to Ghibli, a new regular segment of Nutty Bites and the Talk Nerdy 2 Me Podcasts. Jen & Jason guide newbies Nuchtchas & Tek through the movies of Studio Ghibli. We are starting with the Hayao Miyazaki films in order(ish), just bumping My Neighbor Totoro to the first.  Once we finish those we will hit up the Isao Takahata films, then the Ghibli films without either director, then two non Ghibli Miyazaki films, and we also have some bonus shorts to sprinkle throughout.

Tonight Tek and I saw Spiderman, Homecoming, and he joined me on this episode to talk about it. I am seriously surprised at how much I liked this movie. It proves things I have been saying about comic book movies for a long time. Skip the origin stories for characters we all know. Find the fun! Diverse casting is good casting!  Pair this movie with a nice deli sandwich with EXTRA pickles!
