Daily Creativity: Paintings I did over the weekend

Christiana HendricksThis weekend I did a bit more painting with the ArtRage app on my iPad.  I like it because it has layers and there issn’t any cleanup involved, also, I can paint from anywhere.  Humidity doesn’t effect my paintings and there is no drying time.  Often my oil paintings take forever to dry because I use a lot of paint and I will use linseed oil as a medium too.  I once let a painting dry for three weeks and the white was still tacky when I gave the painting to the owner.
Steampunk Rory with a mustache This first painting was done from a photo of Christina Hendricks.  I don’t think I did her justice but then again who can?  I do love how the brush stroke on her hair came out.

Next I did a painting of Rory as a Steampunked gentleman.  What more does a genteldragon need other than a top hat, a monocle, vest, cane, ray gun, and a curly mustache.

The thing that is great about doing a painting on your iPad is that if you like the basic outline, you’r not committed to just one painting or painting style.  I then took the outline and did a watercolor painting.

Rory as Doctor 11 - WatercolorThis time I painted Rory in watercolors and dressed him up as Doctor 11, Fez, Bowtie, Sonic Screwdriver and all.

I had fun with this, and liked how I could make different incarnations with the same basic outline.  I may just end up using ArtRage for the future children’s book that stars Rory.  Originally I was going to do a series of watercolors but I think I might do better with this app.  For now I’m playing an experimenting with it.  Hey you never know, if I do end up using it for the book, does that mean I can take the iPad off as a deduction from my taxes?  :)

Daily Creativity: Rory and his Princess

Remember I said I would hand draw a better Rory and Daenerys picture? Here it is. I based it off a photo I took during HalCon when we ran into a woman cosplayed as the mother of Dragons. She was so excited to see Rory because she was sad she hadn’t figured out how to add a dragon to her costume. Rory was thrilled to see her because she had a bloody horse heart to eat and blood dripping down her chin :)

I admit, I cheated slightly to get the proportions right on this picture, I printed out the photo and used it as a guide. This was drawn with pencil, then inked with my new sharpies.

Tek mentioned I drew a lot of Rory pictures for lent this year, and I did. I admit that using Rory makes it easy for me to find inspiration, also, it gives me more practice drawing him so when I commence working on his children’s book it will be nicer. I missed a few days this year, but all in all I think this was a good lent and a good Daily Creativity project. Expect to see more from me, but as lent is over they won’t be arriving every day.

thank you.

Daily Creativity: Rory from District RAWR!

I drew this yesterday for Daily Creativity, I only uploaded it now because I drew it after we came back from the movies. We saw the Hunger Games at the theatre here on base. I had seen it once before and Tek had not seen it nor had he read the book. Seeing the movie the second time made me see a lot of the flaws of the film, but I still loved it. I cried, but not nearly as much as I did the first time. Tek really liked the film and though we dissected all the physics flaws he still liked it a lot and rated it high.

I was inspired to draw Rory from District RAWR simply because I was still thinking of the hunger games when I put pencil to paper. I gave him a mighty tum to show, that he is a victor and not hungry at all, my dragon is never left hungry :)
