Daily Creativity: Tea Time

Daily Creativity: Tea Time

Daily Creativity: Tea TimeThis piece is for Tuesday, I was too tired after aikido to finish this and so I finished it today. Originally this drawing was going to be for a tea painting (as in painted with tea), and when that didn’t work out I tossed the block to the side in frustration. I’ve since painted it with watercolors and then went over the original sketch with markers. It’s not what I originally planned but I was able to salvage the materials I think.  Water color and ink on paper.

Daily Creativity: Happy Pi Day 2016

Happy Pi Day 2016 Daily CreativityPi Day is always a fun way to remember Pi. I’ve used it as inspiration for art before, I’ve baked pies in its honor, and I’ve even used the formula to sew  a circle skirt (one of my favorite Pi projects). For this year’s I wrote out Pi to 135 digits on the inside of the circumference of this circle, and drew the symbol in the middle. This drawing was done with ink on unbleached natural paper.

Daily Creativity: Deadwood’s Richardson & Alma

Daily Creativity: Deadwood’s Richardson & Alma

Daily Creativity: Deadwood's Richardson & AlmaIf you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know this is my second Deadwood drawing, and you can thank Hooplecast for that. I drew this while I recorded with them today and it was slightly a request. More on that in another post. I love Richardson, and I figured if I was drawing him, I ought to draw his crush, Alma. Richardson cracks me up, how he holds that same antler that Alma gave him in ever scene since, it’s hysterical. I’ve since discovered that my love for this character isn’t new, odd, or special. The internet adores him, just search for Deadwood’s Richardson, His gifs, and memes, are amazing.

Ink on paper. (previous drawing here)

Daily Creativity: Pip Boy Rory!

Daily Creativity: Pip Boy Rory!

Pip Boy Rory - Daily CreativityIf you’re a fan of the Fallout series of games then you are familiar with Pip Boy. If not, he’s basically the stand in for all of the infographics you see in the game, a game about a post apocalyptic world with a very heavy 1950’s influence of culture. While I was crafting in Fallout shelter tonight I decided that I needed to may Rory as Pip Boy. I think the hardest thing here was making the thumbs up on a figure that normally doesn’t have fingers on his paws. The other challenge is that usually I draw Rory from the side to emphasize his tum, but this composition required me to draw him head on. Working with his proportions was a bit unfamiliar, but it definitely helped me learn how his body is formed, so that’s a plus. This is a watercolor on paper.

Daily Creativity: Manatee

Daily Creativity: Manatee

Manatee - Daily Creativity The Manatee is one of my favorite animals. If you haven’t seen the blog/meme The Calming Mantatee, I suggest you check it out. I wanted to do another drawing in pencils with some shading, and I thought of this because I think this mammal is soft and that works with shading. I used a method to prevent my hand, or heel of my hand, from smearing the graphite. I don’t know why it never occured to me, but simply putting a piece of scrap paper between my hand and the paper was enough to reduce the smearing to almost nil. Anything that was still smudged was easily dealt with by using a blending eraser.
