Daily Creativity: Rory Celebrates Holi

Daily Creativity: Rory Celebrates Holi

Daily Creativity: Rory Celebrates HoliHoli has been one of my favorite things to honor in my Daily Creativity project. I wrote more about the Holi Festival perviously and why I love it so much. I’m not Hindi but it inspires me. This year I decided that Rory would celebrate. I did this using watercolor and ink on a watercolor block. I actually finished this earlier today but I couldn’t get it to the scanner. I will not be home tomorrow night, I’m staying over at a dojo, so I expect I will have to post my creativity on social media and scan it and post it later. I have two that I still need to post from two weekends ago when I was at my in laws. I scanned them, they just aren’t on this site yet. I’ll get to it.

Daily Creativity: Breakfast O-Matic 3000 the Breakfast Robot

Daily Creativity: Breakfast O-Matic 3000 the Breakfast RobotI can’t tell you why I drew a robot today, other than I like drawing them. As I drew this one it became a cooking bot, the Breakfast O-Matic 3000, because why not. I really like how I did the shading. It looks even better in person, but my new scanner is better at picking up the details. I think I like drawing robots because they can be made so cute. Something about them when they don’t look human is adorable to me. Coming up with new shapes for them is fun too. This one has the whist, spatula, and even a toaster in the body.

Daily Creativity: You Are Enough

Daily Creativity: You Are Enough

Daily Creativity: You Are EnoughYou are enough. “You alone are enough. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone.” -Maya Angelou. This might be a bit of a phone in, but writing out this quote is what I have today. I have been writing and lettering for the last two months and it is a very calming thing. Today I felt a bit swamped and I can tell I’m getting sick, so my creative juices are a bit dry I guess. This is really what I have. Hopefully tomorrow will be more inspiring. This was written with a FPR Eyedropper Flex pen filled with Diamine Purple Pizzazz ink. It’s hard to see in the scan, but there are gold sparkles on the ink.

Nutty Bites 121: Book or Movie?

Nutty Bites: Book or Movie?

Nutty Bites: Book or Movie?

Book or Movie? It’s often said that the movie is never as good as the book, but sometimes that isn’t the case. Sometimes the book is better, and sometimes the movie is better. And sometimes the book and movie aren’t even the same story so why bother calling it the same? Why not just file the serial numbers off and make a new thing? Hugh, Jason, Jen, and Jay, join Nuchtchas and Tek to discuss both books and movies.

Daily Creativity: Tundra the Bronx Zoo Polar Bear PBUH

Daily Creativity: Tundra the Bronx Zoo Polar Bear PBUH

Daily Creativity: Tundra the Bronx Zoo Polar Bear PBUHTundra was the polar bear at the Bronx Zoo for 26 years. He was born there and lived his whole life there. I wish I still had the photo I took of him back in 95 (I lost a trove of my 35mm photos and negatives in the move from NS to NB, so if anyone finds a wooden wine box full of 35mm prints and negatives, let me know, I miss them), where he waved at me. He was really cute. I wanted to bring Tek to meet him and many trips we just didn’t get the time, so I made it a point this last trip. Only to find that he had passed just a short bit before we visited. I was so sad. No polar bears, but worse, no Tundra. Today is National Polar Bear Day, who else could I draw but Tundra. I was originally going to recreate him waving at me by using a few reference pictures, but then I found a photo of him napping and it seemed too perfect not to use for his homage.
