Daily Creativity: Love Your Body

Love Your BodyLove Your Body: iPad painting.

This painting reminds me of a trinket I had when I was a kid.  It was a plastic mermaid glued to a rock.  There was something about that little trinket I loved, I think the pose is almost the same.  I also like how I painted it without clear lines, like she could be part of the watery background.

Daily Creativity: Sleeveless and Fearless

sleeveless-and-fearlessIf you follow me on social media you know that I have been reacting to an article I read lately, “Things no one will tell fat girls… so I WILL!” and one of the take aways (everything in the article is worth while) is how many people I know personally who are ashamed of their arm flab and don’t feel brave enough to go sleeveless.  I knew my own issues with my arms, I have always felt my arms were way bigger than they should be, even at my tiniest I was ashamed of my arms.  It’s stupid and silly, arms have flab, without it we can’t put our arms up over our head.  Some have more flab that others, but it’s skin, it’s fat, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of.  In the last year I have been trying to force myself not to cover up my arms unless I’m cold.  I need to get over my own insecurities.  After talking to some people and seeing how that scares them, I decided I had to go sleeveless (and started using the hashtag #sleevelessandfearless).  For the past six days Î have been sleeveless every day (I’m starting to run out of tanks) and my inbox was filled with thank yous and messages from people calling me brave.  It’s a sad thing that so many of us living the privileged lives we lead are scared of sleeveless shirts or dresses.

So I drew this in honor of the momentum I’ve been feeling.  It works well that the weather has gotten nicer, but all the more reasons to go Sleeveless and Fearless!

Daily Creativity: Love Your Body

Love Your BodyI did this painting on Friday (March 22nd) but am only able to post it today (March 24th).  This has been a busy past few days.  Just after putting a 44 page publication to bed CHSR (the campus & community radio station I volunteer at) is in the middle of their annual fundraising drive (FunDrive), and the first few events started.  It’s been crazy, but fun, I was hocking hot dogs out in the snow on Friday at passing college students, helping The Clockwork Doctor parade around the Farmer’s Market, and then went to an acoustic show that wasn’t my style until Josh Bravener took the stage and started doing some fun covers, and then I was dancing.  Add in two other social parties, recording two live shows, one on air (radio) and one live on youtube, helping clean out the station, baking (for two events), and yes, I have been quite busy.

On to the paining.  This is another love your body image, I liked the vague lines I drew with a pen so I just added some watercolor to the background to give it something more.  I like how it came out.  I like the peaceful look to it.  It looks like someone comfortable in their own skin, and isn’t that the goal?  The Dream?

Done on my iPad.

Daily Creativity: Mirror

LOVE YOURSELFHere is last night’s Daily Creativity, slow on uploading happens sometimes when I turn the computer off for the night.  I was inspired to make this when I read a post about people and how they see themselves in the mirror.  We often see art of people looking in the mirror and seeing something other than reality.  What if there were images of people looking in the mirror, seeing what’s really there, and loving every bit of it.  I liked that idea, it goes along with the saying “Look in the mirror every day and find one thing you like about yourself.”  That practice has helped me out a lot.
