Daily Creativity: Reclining

I first saw this post on tumblr by user flushedskin and knew I wanted to paint something with this as a guide.RecliningSM

I first worked on a study on my ipad and then tonight painting this with watercolors.  I had to modify it a bit since the original photo had a hand and phone in the way, but I think I did all right.  I ended up using my husband posting for me to figure out where the shoulder should be.

I love how soft this looks, like the coloring too.  There is something about the human form that I just love painting.

Daily Creativity: Sleeveless and Fearless

sleeveless-and-fearlessIf you follow me on social media you know that I have been reacting to an article I read lately, “Things no one will tell fat girls… so I WILL!” and one of the take aways (everything in the article is worth while) is how many people I know personally who are ashamed of their arm flab and don’t feel brave enough to go sleeveless.  I knew my own issues with my arms, I have always felt my arms were way bigger than they should be, even at my tiniest I was ashamed of my arms.  It’s stupid and silly, arms have flab, without it we can’t put our arms up over our head.  Some have more flab that others, but it’s skin, it’s fat, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of.  In the last year I have been trying to force myself not to cover up my arms unless I’m cold.  I need to get over my own insecurities.  After talking to some people and seeing how that scares them, I decided I had to go sleeveless (and started using the hashtag #sleevelessandfearless).  For the past six days Î have been sleeveless every day (I’m starting to run out of tanks) and my inbox was filled with thank yous and messages from people calling me brave.  It’s a sad thing that so many of us living the privileged lives we lead are scared of sleeveless shirts or dresses.

So I drew this in honor of the momentum I’ve been feeling.  It works well that the weather has gotten nicer, but all the more reasons to go Sleeveless and Fearless!

Daily Creativity: Love Your Body

Love Your BodyI did this painting on Friday (March 22nd) but am only able to post it today (March 24th).  This has been a busy past few days.  Just after putting a 44 page publication to bed CHSR (the campus & community radio station I volunteer at) is in the middle of their annual fundraising drive (FunDrive), and the first few events started.  It’s been crazy, but fun, I was hocking hot dogs out in the snow on Friday at passing college students, helping The Clockwork Doctor parade around the Farmer’s Market, and then went to an acoustic show that wasn’t my style until Josh Bravener took the stage and started doing some fun covers, and then I was dancing.  Add in two other social parties, recording two live shows, one on air (radio) and one live on youtube, helping clean out the station, baking (for two events), and yes, I have been quite busy.

On to the paining.  This is another love your body image, I liked the vague lines I drew with a pen so I just added some watercolor to the background to give it something more.  I like how it came out.  I like the peaceful look to it.  It looks like someone comfortable in their own skin, and isn’t that the goal?  The Dream?

Done on my iPad.

Daily Creativity: Move Your Body – Yoga Edition

YogaPosesA lot of times when I am looking for inspiration I use image from the internet as my models, tonight I was inspired by this post on Chubby Bunnies to make a fun Move Your Body graphic.  It makes me miss yoga, I really loved yoga and I’d like to get back to it.  I have done some on the wii fit, but that’s not the same as real yoga.  I really want to find a yoga class in my area and do this again.  I love these models, love seeing women like me doing yoga.  I want to make this a poster and put it on my wall till I find a yoga studio.
