Daily Creativity: Miss Piggy

MissPiggyLast night and this morning I couldn’t sleep, so I stayed up and was productive.  I worked on a lot of projects, almost all of which I can’t share yet.  (And I need to remember to photograph these things before I turn them in, unlike the last four times, which I forgot each time and have nothing to show for it.)  After working on all of that I got the urge, or the need to draw one of my favorite role models.  Miss Piggy.  Many of you know how much I love the muppets, but Miss Piggy I am growing to love more and more as I get older.  She lives her life right, by her standards and her needs.  Piggy is an awesome personality and we could all learn a thing or two from her.

THIS Is Girlfriend Mode!

girlfriend mode - the mode when I beat you with my controller A few days ago on twitter (where do you get news?) Some people within the design crew of Borderlands 2 were calling their easier difficulty mode, “Girlfriend Mode.”  Since then there has been a lot of articles claiming people are over reacting, backpedaling and clarifications by CEOs.  You can find the original article here on Eurogamer, with some updates.

I first noticed the story when @SunriseRobin (Author of Zeus, Inc. and founder/blogger of www.fangirlconfessions.com) was tweeting about it.  Now i know many women who are great at video games, and many who suck.  We all have our own preferences, just like I know many men who are good and many men who suck.  It’s not a gender thing, but for some reason there is a big group of people, or perhaps a loud group of people who seem to want to put down women who game.  Not only that, they want to keep women from gaming.  (and there is also a backlash where women now are being expected to prove that they are action gamers and not just posers /sigh)

My reaction to this “Girlfriend Mode” was not to flame tweet, was not to call for a boycott of Borderlands 2 (Borderlands the original game is very good and I can’t see one designer being stupid as cause for a boycott) but this image came into my head.  I was swamped with work so I asked Robin to remind me to draw it later.

I hope you all enjoy it for the fun it is meant to be.

Daily Creativity: Baby Mulligan & April Fish

Baby Mulligan Smith from Flash PulpAnother bit of Fan Art for FlashPulp.com. We were discussing the idea of what some of the characters would have looked like as babies, so I started with a toddler version of Mulligan Smith. I always have an issue drawing children, they always look much older than I intend them to look. And yes, that is a slurpee in his bottle thank you very much.

You might notice I started dating my drawings. It’s something I saw Stanton Friedman do at the station the other day and it got me thinking it was a good idea. I think the date does more than just establish someone signed something, but when, when in their career. I though it was a nice touch, so I’m doing it now. Thoughts?

April Fool's Day Fish
Today is April Fool’s day, I hate pranks and I really don’t like the idea of tricks or people having a justified reason to pick on people. That said, I do enjoy a good Joke, like Google Maps having quest mode where you can look at the maps in 8bit, or the funny offerings at ThinkGeek (A K Cup that dispenses donuts? Priceless) Make sure you go and look up the Mass Effect Saturday Morning Cartoon on YouTube, that was awesome.

Years ago my husband explained to me the french custom (I don’t know if it is just Quebec or something they do in france too, but its part of his culture) of giving people fish on April First, so for the past few years I have honored this custom by drawing fish, here is this year’s fish.
