Nutty Bites: Big Mouth – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

Big Mouth is an animated Netflix series. It’s written and voiced by a lot of comedians that I like. The story follow teens through puberty told in the most crass way that is not intended for teens or younger in anyway. It’s more geared for adults to look back at what was the horror of dealing with hormones for the first time. Raging hormones are represented by the Hormone Monster (voiced by Jason Mantzoukas) and the Hormone Monstress. Monsters are pretty fitting for how confusing puberty can feel.

Nutty Bites: Bates Motel – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

Bates Motel is a prequel TV series to the Movie Psycho. I really enjoyed what they did with the story and getting to know Norma Bates (Norman’s Mom.) It’s really hard to do a project like this without really screwing up canon or the characters, yet the writers and directors pulled it off with the outstanding cast. If you have seen the show and need more you can always listen to the Yes Mother podcast where Em and Sue review each episode. Speaking of, I adore their podcast and I think it made my enjoyment of the series even more.

Nutty Bites: Borderline – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

Borderline is a British show about a customs department of a small airport. It has a very The Office vibe to it, without feeling mean like the UK version had. There is even the romantic tension between co-workers, the boss that is desperate for people to love them, and the slightly sycophantic socially awkward underling. Yet it departs from the Office in many ways as each of these characters are their own and the stories don’t follow the same path. Some characters you start out not liking turn out to be some of your favorites and some that you thought you liked seem more shallow as you get to know them. It’s 22minute episodes of non laugh track comedy that I really enjoy. Rather than pair it with a stale sandwich I’m going to pair this with a set of curry and chips from the take away van.

Nutty Bites: The Good Place – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

The Good Place is another show I had heard a lot about. I will be serious, I only watched it because I love watching Kristen Bell. There is something about the roles she plays that I like. Even when she is evil she is captivating and fun. This show is a nice mix of her different types of characters and I had a blast watching her. Better yet, the supporting characters also engaged me.

Nutty Bites: Son of Zorn – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

Son of Zorn was a failed show from FOX, but it was hilarious. It was a stupid funny show that I loved. Sadly, because I’m a cord cutter I couldn’t really watch it live. I also heard absolutely nothing about it. So I’m thinking this is another case of FOX not knowing what they had and not promoting a good show. I dug it, and they used the mixed mediums of live action and animation in a way that told a story, they should get credit for that.
