Nutty Bites: Borderline – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

Borderline is a British show about a customs department of a small airport. It has a very The Office vibe to it, without feeling mean like the UK version had. There is even the romantic tension between co-workers, the boss that is desperate for people to love them, and the slightly sycophantic socially awkward underling. Yet it departs from the Office in many ways as each of these characters are their own and the stories don’t follow the same path. Some characters you start out not liking turn out to be some of your favorites and some that you thought you liked seem more shallow as you get to know them. It’s 22minute episodes of non laugh track comedy that I really enjoy. Rather than pair it with a stale sandwich I’m going to pair this with a set of curry and chips from the take away van.

Nutty Bites: The Good Place – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

The Good Place is another show I had heard a lot about. I will be serious, I only watched it because I love watching Kristen Bell. There is something about the roles she plays that I like. Even when she is evil she is captivating and fun. This show is a nice mix of her different types of characters and I had a blast watching her. Better yet, the supporting characters also engaged me.

Nutty Bites: Son of Zorn – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

Son of Zorn was a failed show from FOX, but it was hilarious. It was a stupid funny show that I loved. Sadly, because I’m a cord cutter I couldn’t really watch it live. I also heard absolutely nothing about it. So I’m thinking this is another case of FOX not knowing what they had and not promoting a good show. I dug it, and they used the mixed mediums of live action and animation in a way that told a story, they should get credit for that.

Nutty Bites: Kim’s Convenience – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

Kim’s Convenience is a CBC show that I had heard a lot about but never tuned in. Mostly because I don’t have TV, but then it came on Netflix. Then my sister told me she loved it, so I had to try it out. I’m not big into sitcoms but I liked this. This is a typical CBC family comedy. I am reminded for some reason of Little Mosque on the Prairie. Likely because one of the gust stars was a regular on that show. It is quirky and fun with some authentic and relatable family elements. I’m into it. I have watched two seasons and will watch more when the third hits Netflix.

Nutty Bites: The Let Down – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018

The Let Down is a show on Netflix that on paper, is entirely not my kind of show, but the humor makes it my kind of show. At first it looks like my greatest fear but it is more about women helping women and people letting go of what they think they should be doing. How everyone needs to find their own way. I loved it, and it’s hard to explain why.
