Turn: Washington’s Spies and The Crown are two historical dramas that I have been watching. Turn is a full and complete series and The Crown is two seasons in. Both have great acting and actors that you may know from other series that you already love. Much like I have explained before, I love a good historical drama. It lets me research and see what they got right and what they changed for dramatic effect, or for other reasons. Sorry Betsy, far too little of Hercules Mulligan in Turn, but it’s still worth the watch.

Nutty Bites: Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries - Dinner and a Movie - Dog Days of Podcasting 2018Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is a charming show filled with charming characters. It’s one of those shows that makes me feel good when I watch it. Sure I could nit pick a lot of things but I’d rather focus on the joy it brings. This is like watching a dime novel with some modern sensibilities. Plus there are a lot of cool historical references that has me researching. You all know I love a good tie into history. I also got to learn a bit more about Australian history. Also, I can do a mean Miss Fisher casual cosplay.

Nutty Bites: Rebellion – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018Rebellion I thought was a Netflix series but now I see is a Sundance TV show. This may have been simultaneously released on Netflix Canada at the same time, so there was a partnership. I could be wrong though, don’t quote me on it. This miniseries was enjoyable, but note that there are a lot of differences from what actually happened and what they used to tell a dramatic tale. I highly encourage you to look up the actual history or listen to the Stuff You Missed in History Class episode(s) about the Easter Rising.

Nutty Bites: Big Mouth – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018Big Mouth is an animated Netflix series. It’s written and voiced by a lot of comedians that I like. The story follow teens through puberty told in the most crass way that is not intended for teens or younger in anyway. It’s more geared for adults to look back at what was the horror of dealing with hormones for the first time. Raging hormones are represented by the Hormone Monster (voiced by Jason Mantzoukas) and the Hormone Monstress. Monsters are pretty fitting for how confusing puberty can feel.

Nutty Bites: Bates Motel – Dinner and a Movie – Dog Days of Podcasting 2018Bates Motel is a prequel TV series to the Movie Psycho. I really enjoyed what they did with the story and getting to know Norma Bates (Norman’s Mom.) It’s really hard to do a project like this without really screwing up canon or the characters, yet the writers and directors pulled it off with the outstanding cast. If you have seen the show and need more you can always listen to the Yes Mother podcast where Em and Sue review each episode. Speaking of, I adore their podcast and I think it made my enjoyment of the series even more.
