Daily Creativity: Angel in my Centerfold – also, even though it’s march, check yourself

Angel for Breast Cancer?
So today’s creation for March, Art Month is this.  I was working on my proportions of a figure but also trying to keep it PGish so I covered the naughty bits so to say (I’m not against nudity, actually most of my best paintings are nudes but for the purpose of promoting Art Month I want to make sure people see my work as Art and I don’t have to deal with the “Why are all your paintings naked ladies” issue) but due to the post of covering up my friend Liz said it looked like it was promoted ladies checking themselves for breast cancer.  Which made me giggle a little and say, well then yeah!  That’s what I meant to do :) Because after all, no matter what month it is, we ladies (and men) need to check ourselves for cancer.  At least monthly check ups are needed.  So remember to do that.

Other then that?  This is a pencil sketch, I added the wings after getting the figure done and worked a little on shading but I really liked the idea of the figure being bright on a shaded background.

How’s your Art Month coming along?

Daily Creativity: March is Art Month! (Gamer Dice Still Life)

Gamer Dice abstract sketch

This morning I was asked “What the heck is Art Month?”  It’s something I started, yeah I thought of an idea and decided to promote it like it was real.  If November is National (now International) Novel Writing Month then there NEEDS to be an International Art Month.

The rules are simple, create something every day.  Painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, cross stitch, whatever it is that you do that you consider art.  Create it, then post it online somewhere.  Twitpic it, blog it, posturus it, facebook it, tweet it, LJ it, something, anything.  Make it and let people see it.

Art Month, the month of march create and post something daily, tell your friends.

I was inspired by the topic of the Digger Chat I recorded this morning. I did a pencil sketch of my some of gaming dice

It’s a good kick off to Art Month.

Nutty Bites Episode 02

Me and my niece
Just under the wire, Episode 2 is up.

Basically I scheduled the last two weeks of February to work on a piece of short fiction I wrote during NaNoWriMo, unfortunately I came down with pneumonia and could record at all.  Luckily I had a Nutty Debate saved and ready to go, and my voice and health cleared up just in time to record a show :)

Please, keep the feedback coming, send me audio to add to the show and anyone that wants to leave me an iTunes review go right ahead, I will give you a special shout out :)

Daily Creativity – Dragon*Cant

Sandra telling stories

Originally uploaded by nuchtchas

This weekend there were many Cons, Dragon*Con, PAX, WorldCon, you name it. While all of those conventions sound like fun Labor Day is never a good weekend for me, it is pretty expensive and to tell the truth, I am pretty scared about the crowds.

Out of a joke a wonderful thing happened, Dragon*Cant. It is a virtual con for everyone who can’t make it to the big cons. There were panels and readings on ustream with a fun chat going on at each event. There was a dealers room (though limited) and even con badges, virtual ones of course. If you are on my twitter stream I am sure you have heard me tweet about this…. I am also sure I annoyed some people to no end due to my excitement, but I am just as sure that many on my feed were happy to get those same tweets so… If you don’t like me tweeting about what excites me unsubscribe. I may not always be excited about the same things as you, but sometimes I will… I digress.

The people who put together Dragon*Cant did this all in three days, three days! That is sick! They got around 5K visits to the site, 39 FB fans and tons of tweets. It is kinda inspiring, and it made me think about next year. I want to get involved, and I think it could be fun. At first, I thought “Who are you to do a panel, you are no one.” Then I thought, “why not me?” So my thoughts are to somehow figure out how to do a drawing or some form of art panel next year. It will be a little tricky as I don’t really draw on the computer, like MANY people who do drawing ustreams do, I would have to hook up the webcam aimed at my sketchbook, and not move it. An interesting thing to take on.

Tonight, while Sandra Wickham was doing her reading I started sketching her. I then inked it, thinking it would look good comicy. I ended up scanning that and coloring it in photoshop. I added the book her short story was published in, Evolve, as the background. I hope she likes it.
