Daily Creativity: Thankful Thursday – Lael

Lael as Pop Art - HackerGroupie
Today is Thankful Thursday, and it’s Art Month so I give you Lael, done in Pop Art.  I really like how her eyes came out.

Lael is one of the people that I met through my roleplaying group online (star trek) and one of the first online friends of mine to become a real life friend.  She and I often refer to one another as Sis (as if I don’t have enough sisters) because we are twins… from different mothers.  Our interests tend to be the same and are often going through similar things in our lives at the same time.  We joke that one of us is the good twin and the other is the evil twin, of course we never agree on who is the evil twin.

Lael has an Amazing voice and I have few songs of hers in my MP3 collection, but not nearly as many as I’d like (hint hint, record more).  She has provided back up vocals for a couple of different projects.  She’s an amazing writer who ran a writing challenge group I was a part of years ago.  She loves Buffy and Star Trek (especially sexy nosed Bajorans) and Dr Who and many other geek things.  I have many memories of yaking on the phone with her for hours.  Having Lael at my wedding was very important to me and I was so grateful.  In the two trips she’s made to NY she was able to hang with my family and belong.  Without Lael I wouldn’t have had support through some pretty trying times in my life, I’m thankful to always have someone in my life that loves me how she loves me.  I will always love her and keep her close in my heart.

Daily Creativity: USS Terrapin

USS terrapin
Yes, this is very silly, but don’t tell me you never thought that the saucer section of the ships in Star Trek looked like turtle shells.

I think our buddy Shelldon here is on his way to meet A’Tuin.

(You may have noticed that there wasn’t a Daily Creativity yesterday.  That’s because I missed it.  Yes, I ended up working so late friday night that I slept most of Saturday (but since I got my work turned in, I could sleep Saturday) and since I didn’t do my drawing before going out gaming, and gaming ran pretty late (and was a blast, minus the part where my husband broke the corner of his foot) that when we got home we went right to bed and it wasn’t till this morning that I realized I missed a day.  I think this may be the first time I have missed a day during lent or art month in three years… though there might have been one missed day the first year.  I feel really bad about it, but I’m trying to not beat myself up over it.)

Dude, like a real Tricorder would be so cooooool!

I know this has been discussed to death, but I wanted to assure everyone that we here at NIMLAS Studios would love it if one of our mixed nuts or nutcases won the latest XPrize.

The Qualcomm Tricorder XPrize

Introducing the $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE.

Imagine a portable, wireless device in the palm of your hand that monitors and diagnoses your health conditions. That’s the technology envisioned by this competition, and it will allow unprecedented access to personal health metrics. The end result: Radical innovation in healthcare that will give individuals far greater choices in when, where, and how they receive care. Learn more about the competition

I used to have a toy one, I bought it for way more than I should have and I loved it till the batteries corroded and ruined it on me.  That toy had stickers in place of the instruments, but if it actually worked, well that would just be awesome.  Forge needing national healthcare, we could all have one of these in our homes and never have to worry about the little aches and pains, the tricorder would tell us if it was a tumor or not :) The only downside is kids couldn’t fake being too sick to go to school, sorry kids, better think of better ways to play hooky.
