Note, you can expect some more panel recordings coming in the feed as bonus episodes, and the Nutty Bites Live, JRR Tolkien vs CS Lewis, will be coming into the feed but the audio isn’t great so it needs work. Thanks for your patience.

Nutty Bites 85: Intro to Ghibli – My Neighbor Totoro

Nutty Bites 85: Intro to Ghibli - My Neighbor TotoroNutty Bites 85: Intro to Ghibli – My Neighbor Totoro

Intro to Ghibli, a new regular segment of Nutty Bites and the Talk Nerdy 2 Me Podcasts. Jen & Jason guide newbies Nuchtchas & Tek through the movies of Studio Ghibli. Starting with My Neighbor Totoro, we bumble our way through figuring out how this form of IntroCast works.

I’m also really pleased with the show art, I drew this of the four of us with Totoro. I will be using this art for all of the Intro to Ghibli episodes because the imagry from this movie has become so iconic of studio Ghibli. You can look forward to a future post about this Daily Creativity piece on it’s own.

We are starting with the Hayao Miyazaki films in order(ish), just bumping My Neighbor Totoro to the first.  Once we finish those we will hit up the Isao Takahata films, then the Ghibli films without either director, then two non Ghibli Miyazaki films, and we also have some bonus shorts to sprinkle throughout.

I read the names at the beginning of this episode, I am still getting a feel for how this patreon thing is working. Let me know if you like it at the beginning of the show, or the end? Thanks!

Nutty Bites 83 – Whitewashing in Hollywood

Nutty Bites 83: Whitewashing in Hollywood

Nutty Bites - Whitewashing in HollywoodNuchtchas, Tek, Jason (Podcasting’s Heartthrob), Claire, & Shane, gather to talk about the pervasive problem of Whitewashing in Hollywood. That’s right, four white people and one person of color tackle this topic, are we part of the problem? Likely.  Listen as we get enraged and try to play devil’s advocate but still can’t understand why this is still a thing.

Also included an Englishman saying Benidact Cumberbatch :) And the explanation of how Into Darkness didn’t have Kahn.

Yes we understand, but didn’t clearly state till we turned off the recording, that yes Ben Kingsley is part Indian but he is so white passing and they used brown face on him when he played Ghandi. I suppose it was progressive casting for the time, but we still aren’t happy.

We make some mistakes, and leave some stuff out, but that’s what happens when you are impassioned about a topic. Some people may say this isn’t a big deal, but this panel of geeks all seem to think it is a big deal.
