Aikido in Spaaaaaaaaaaaace!

Space

watercolor and acrylic on paper – 3/27/2015

I couldn’t resist the pun :) Yesterday I did a watercolor where I was trying to get a galaxy look to it, it was a lot of color washes and wet washes and working to see if I could get it just right. I had used a white crayon to block the watercolor but that didn’t produce enough stars so I used some watered down acrylic paint over top. You can see the result to the right. I liked the result but I felt like I phoned it in because I was essentially just playing with technique.

Today I took a classic photo of Goza Shioda (upside down and flying) and created a silhouette of one of Tek’s favorite moves using black and dark gray ink. The ink had an interesting effect of not staining the paint so much, and letting the watercolor texture and pattern bleed through. I actually like how it came out, even though it wasn’t planned that way.

So this is actually a two daily creativity? I just built one upon the other, but I like them each separately.

Daily Creativity: Aikido Wave

Aikido Wave - brushed inkAfter Aikido last night I was inspired but I wanted to do something that represented the circles, and wave like movements we do. So I googled some images and found an image of two practitioners in this move. I drew this using ink with a brush, it was tricky at times, and I liked the results, but in the original I smeared some of the ink with the heel of my palm, so in this case, the scan is better than the original. Daily Creativity: Seiza (from tuesday)

seiza_smTuesday is an aikido night, so I find myself influenced by it when I’m painting. Last night I painted in watercolor a person in seiza, the way we kneel/sit in class. I had fun with this and worked on making it gender neutral. Painting in ArtRage on the iPad. 2/24/2015
