Every Tuesday since Balticon Tek, Encaf1 and I have taken to #OperationChikenWing, Where we get together at The Snooty Fox for half price wings and a geeky confab. We’re liking it a lot and since the weather is so nice, I like to take a walk around Fredericton after supper, always trying to find a different path since there are so many. Today we went to the old train bridge. I’d never been over it before so it was neat to see it and to get the wind from the river.
- Looking down the old Train Bridge. It’s been converted to an awesome walkway incorporating it into the Transcanada Trail system.
- Looking out over the St. John River.
- Tek & Encaf1 on the bridge
- When we went back to our car we saw there was a changing of the guard ceremony, oh wait, the guard shrunk in the wash?
- Actually, it’s the cadets.
- They are doing a fancy kind of drill, inwards dressing, anti-cavalry squares, repelling, infantry charge, advancing vollyfire, and other vintage drill, showing us how mid 1800’s redcoats would do drill
- I of course didn’t know a thing about this drill, but Tek explained it all to me and it was very interesting. These kids were top notch. Did you notice the white leather aprons and the axes on some? Those are pioneers.
These pictures are from my cell phone, so they aren’t the best, I want to go back to the train bridge with my DSLR and a proper lens, I keep meaning to do a walking tour of Fredericton, soon.
What’s your little neck of the woods look like now that it’s summer. What are some of your favorite walking trails? I’d love to see them.
It was a great walk, and those young folk doing drill were really good. “STAND BY TO REPEL CAVALRY!”…. and then they move into the square, drop the bayonet points, and fire in all directions…very well done. I’d love to see it done with 4 times as many people on the parade though, but this was amazing for summer volunteers.
