Learning Town is here!!!!

While this may not be a normal post from NIMLAS Studios, this is relevant as it’s about friends of Nutty Bites.  Remember when I talked to Paul and Storm?  Well their new show Learning Town is now live.  Check it out!

What do you think?  Does it look interesting?  Did it grab you yet?  I’m not sure I’d watch Mr Rodgers if he was replaced by someone else… then again, people continued to watch Blue’s Clues when Steve left… I forget the name of the guy who replaced him though, clearly I wasn’t a fan.

Media Review: Written by a Kid

Most of my readers will be familiar with the Geek & Sundry youtube channel, if you’ve not watched shows on it you’ve had your friends break out a new game they heard about on tabletop or your mother asked you about that steampunk thing you like that Felicia Day vloged about on the FLOG (because of course your mother is just that cool).

When Tabz told me to check out Written by a Kid though, I had my doubts.  I don’t have kids, and while I like kids books and am a bit of a kid myself, I’m often less than impressed by projects focused around ‘They say the darndest things.’  This is anything but that.  They interview a kit, the kid tells them the idea for a story and as the viewer hears about the story we see a visual representation of this story.  Whether it be animation, live action, a mix of both, or played by Joss Whedon and Dave Foley, it’s always fun to see.

You could watch this with your child, or just on your own and get a lot out of it.  Evil robot families, goth babies, a S.Q.U.A.T. team, half vampires taking out pirate witches, what’s not to love?  In addition to the main movies/stories the behind the scenes videos are really interesting.  Normally, I skip behind the scenes videos on youtube, it’s a lot more extra than content, but on this channel they talk about things that are interesting to me, animation, how they got Joss Whedon to perform, painted clothing (I really want to make some and wear it for real), different video effects and a Buffy Mustache.

Enough of me blabbing, go, watch the videos.  Oh and it’s work safe, kid safe and everything safe :)

PS: thanks Tabz for being right again about something I thought sounded like it wasn’t my cup of tea but in the end was right up my alley.

The Year of Vlogging Dangerously by the XerialKiller

You may have listened to a Nutty Debate or two in which we had the  as one of our debaters.  This year for 2012 he has decided to do a VLOG a day, that’s right, everyday he will VLOG.  (What is a VLOG, you might ask?  It’s a video blog, a video journal, a video diary, a guy who films himself rambling about what he did that day.)  While I often don’t watch many VLOGS, they keep me tied to a computer (or iPad, or other device that supports youtube video) I do check them out from time to time.  I don’t see yet why this is a VLOG over a podcast because there isn’t much to see other than his head… well there is that happy fat Buddha in the background, but it’s a short VLOG so it holds my attention.  Have I mentioned I have ADD?  I do, and not in the turn of phrase I have ADD because I get distracted but in the clinical sense, I have ADD, my mind works differently and I use that to my advantage but it often makes me rambly and easy to distract.

Anyway, go check out his channel, watch the videos, they are kinda fun and I’m waiting for him to do some crazy things on camera, because he can.  You will notice he isn’t swearing much, but if he does swear random words like taco and potato aren’t covering his swears, so dad.  (I mention this because XK is the guy who recorded all my swear word covers for Nutty Bites.)

Below is the first VLOG from January first, he has now done 11 of them (as I write this, and as I publish it he should have done 12, yes, I am prewriting this, muhahahaha!) and I can’t say that any one is tied to another, nice and random, just how I like it.  Also, XK taunts me in one of his videos calling carbonated beverages “pop” he is wrong, it is soda.  (Yes I know it is pop to some and soda to others and some odd folks call all walks of carbonation coke, but it is soda to me and the one time I called it pop I felt dirty)

PS: I find the idea that his project can easily be referred to as VD (Vloging Dangerously, dropping the rest of it, it makes sense in my head so just go with it) highly amusing and would love if that abbreviation catches on.
