It’s hot thanks to it being summer so I recorded this at the radio station in sweet, sweet air conditioning. (oh and I call Nathan Lowell a jerk… for being so talented)

My goal was to make a shorter episode, I ended up failing at that, sorry folks.

NIMLAS Studios will be at Dragon*Cant!

Every year geeks flock to Dragon*Con and WorldCon and many other cons, while more geeks are left at home wishing they could go.  Three years ago a joke on twitter between @BrandG, @SVallie, & @Nlowell became a haven for those of us left out of the con club.  Dragon*Cant, the virtual con, the un con, the all the con with none of the crud has grown and flourished over the past three years.

Through the magic of the internet (Ustream and Google Hangouts) we are able to not just host or attend a panel but to participate in them.  Not only are the panels but meeting in the bar in between panels.  With Twitter and Google hangouts over the next few days you can interact with geeks from all over the world, some your friends, and others friends you haven’t met yet.  Both prior Dragon*Cants have brought me new friends I had never met before and gotten me closer with people I had only just seen on twitter.

Last year I hosted a panel on Pop Art, this year on Sunday, I will be hosting two panels and The Clockwork Doctor (our intrepid GunGeek columnist) will be hosting a panel of his own.

Media Review: Written by a Kid

Most of my readers will be familiar with the Geek & Sundry youtube channel, if you’ve not watched shows on it you’ve had your friends break out a new game they heard about on tabletop or your mother asked you about that steampunk thing you like that Felicia Day vloged about on the FLOG (because of course your mother is just that cool).

When Tabz told me to check out Written by a Kid though, I had my doubts.  I don’t have kids, and while I like kids books and am a bit of a kid myself, I’m often less than impressed by projects focused around ‘They say the darndest things.’  This is anything but that.  They interview a kit, the kid tells them the idea for a story and as the viewer hears about the story we see a visual representation of this story.  Whether it be animation, live action, a mix of both, or played by Joss Whedon and Dave Foley, it’s always fun to see.

You could watch this with your child, or just on your own and get a lot out of it.  Evil robot families, goth babies, a S.Q.U.A.T. team, half vampires taking out pirate witches, what’s not to love?  In addition to the main movies/stories the behind the scenes videos are really interesting.  Normally, I skip behind the scenes videos on youtube, it’s a lot more extra than content, but on this channel they talk about things that are interesting to me, animation, how they got Joss Whedon to perform, painted clothing (I really want to make some and wear it for real), different video effects and a Buffy Mustache.

Enough of me blabbing, go, watch the videos.  Oh and it’s work safe, kid safe and everything safe :)

PS: thanks Tabz for being right again about something I thought sounded like it wasn’t my cup of tea but in the end was right up my alley.

Daily Creativity: Happy Nude (NWS)

I painted this painting last night, based on an image I found on tumblr.  Yet now when it comes time to post online I find myself hesitating.  Not because I would classify the painting as R or even PG-13, but because other people might.  The internet can be touchy and since I have tried to keep my presence at a PG rating I wonder.  So if you’d like to see the full panting, either click the thumbnail, or look below the cut.

I like to paint my figures with non representational colors, it lets me accentuate curves, shadow and highlight better.  I chose this figure because of the smile mostly, which is interesting because painting an open mouth often looks odd to me.  The original figure is dressed (and wow does she every look awesome/hot/amazing/sexy/happy/wonderful/beautiful/lively/heathy/fantastic) but I just loved her form and as I painted her I didn’t paint clothes.  I miss painting from a live model, but thankfully the internet gives me many photo models.
